Both vehicles used a 4.6L engine. Essentially it was the same engine, the Crown Vic engine didn't have quite as many performance parts in the engine though. But more or less it was the exact same engine. It would be most likely be cheaper to buy a used Mustang GT than to drop a V8 in your V6.

You should be able to google the answer easily enough.
However, all things being equal, I think the Crown Vic engine would not be a good "fit" with a Mustang. The Crown Vic engine is not high performance...unless you're talking one from a retired police cruiser.

The 4.6 mustang which was 96 & newer should be close with different exhaust & intake. Should fit in a Crown Vic fairly easily.

if they are both 5.0 L engines and you swap all the mustang stuff to the vic's engine that appears different ( mounts, belts, manifolds etc.) and keep vic wiring stuff cuz you may need to keep a vic sensor that has a different electrical end than that on the mustang ( solder that joint . ) everything should be ok. if the mustang 5.0 has any salvageable heavy duty stuff inside keep it to strip or trade , have fun , be safe
