The official position of the profession (in the U.S. anyway) is that people should brush, THEN floss. The reason for this is that brushing back and forth along the gumline cleans the front and back of the teeth, but can push plaque and food particles between the teeth. Floss then removes this debris that has been accumulated between the teeth. If flossing is done prior to brushing, the plaque and food particles that are on the cheek/lip side and tongue side of the teeth can get pushed in between the teeth, hence voiding the flossing that was done. I hope this answers your question.

While I claim no special training, I will share my personal experience: I always floss PRIOR to brushing.

The reason for doing so is three fold:
(1) a lot of food items which may be stuck between teeth and/or on the surface of the teeth can be removed with careful flossing
(2) flossing can help remove plaque BEFORE it can become a hardened calculus on the tooth surface.
(3) floss reaches places that brushing doesn't.

other than that, the reason I do my flossing first is that it leaves my mouth feeling totally clean after my brushing and rinsing and keeps the gums and teeth happy.

I personally brush, floss, brush with baking soda and mouthwash
with Hydrogen Peroxide.

It makes for healthy teeth and gums.
