Why is the US still in Germany 60 years after WWII? Why is he US still in Korea 50 years after the Korean War? When looked at in a broader perspective we have not been in Iraq all that long and the Iraqi's need us to stay until they can get on their feet. The PM hasn't told the US and the coalition to get out.
FWIW, the US military would love to get out. In fact we had plans for a major withdrawal in 2004 and would have pulled out most troops except for the insurgent activity that started in the Spring on that year. If the insurgents had been smart they would have held back for another 1-2 years and the US would have been all but gone from Iraq.

Here is the deal. What people don't realize is that everything the news media shows is not true. The reason we are still in Iraq is that all of the terrorists went into Syria to hide. Once we got done in Iraq, they started to go into Iraq from the border. What Bush wants to do with the 200,000 troops or whatever is to perminantly shut down the border between Iraq and Syria. The thing I wanna know is, why isn't he worrying about the Mexican-U.S. border? I don't know about where you are, but down here in Alabama, It's startin to get bad.

Because we're looking for a good site to build a Wal-Mart in Bagdad. Store opening specials will be, head scarfs, face masks, AK-47's, knife sharpeners and paperback copies of the Koran. Actually I'm in a position to offer an intelligent liberal, like yourself, a managers job. There is incentive bonus for you if you take the job and, ah, stay for one year.

How is one to live a moral and compassionate existence when one is fully aware of the blood, the horror inherent in our American life, when one finds darkness not only in one's culture but within oneself? If there is a stage at which an individual life becomes truly adult, it must be when one grasps the irony in its unfolding and accepts responsibility for a life lived in the midst of such paradox.
