i lost the only ignition key to my 1990 Ford F150. I looked into the manual and they said to bring it to a shop were they will need to dismantel the column to replace it. i would be fine with putting a three way switch in its place (a switch that position one is off, two is running, and three is for the starter(spring loaded)). i have no idea were to start.

Well, to put a 3 position switch in wouldn't be a very good idea, as there are probably 10 wires that come off the switch that you would need to account for.

My best advice would be to call local locksmiths, who could go to the truck and cut a key for it. Most will tell you over the phone how much they will charge. I know that in the indy area, they charge about 70 bucks....

Or you could buy a good drill, and spend an hour making a mess of your truck, then to it somewhere and they can charge you 200 to fix what you messed up.

Hope it helped.....

a good locksmith will be able to 'tap' (decode from the tumblers inside and cut) a key from the existing ignition lock. The VIN key code database was just beginning at Ford in 1990 so calling the dealer is out of the question. It costs about seventy five bucks for the housecall but is much cheaper and safer than having someone tear up your steering column.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

you have no choice but to junk the truck. just hope that the junk yard will give you $100 for it...as it is now completely obsolete.
