Because they tolerate you and want to show you that they have defended their lair (that, by the way, they allow you to live in). The giver of food must see that Kitty is a vicious and terrifying killer. ha ha
Seriously, I'm taking a shot in the dark here, but I'm guessing it's because they wanna show you that they care. Also, Kitties can be very territorial.

Your cat is bringing home it's keep. It is trying ot tell you that he/she wants to contribute something to the household. Just give the cat praise and clean up the mouse...icky.

That is their gift to you, all cats do it, they want to say "here you go I love you," you are to praise them and let them know you are proud of them. That is how they show you they love you and respect you

Cats are very strange animals. I doubt that they are altruistic enough to offer "gifts" to their people. Personally, I don't like cats very much, but respect their lives...which means I wouldn't kill one. My best friend is blind and mildly retarded because of pre-natal infection with a cat's Toxoplasmosis. Not my idea of a lot of fun!

its a present. Belive it or not they do it so that you find it and praise them. Its a way of saying "Hey i love you here you go!!:"
