When I was an Athiest, it was because I was mad at God, nowall Athiest on here are notlike me, the devil lied to me and told me there was no God and that he (the devil) did not exist. I was mad at God anyways for what happened in my childhood. I was alos brought up Mormon and we were taught to believe that God was always watching us (like big brother) and satan was out to get us. I had just tried being Wicca to and that didn't work either. Would you believe that God our Father woould not leave me alone. Everytime I was alone somehwere, wher eno one else was, I could feel this presence around me, it took four years to figure out it was God telling me thathe still loved me even though I refused to acknowledge his existance. What can I say, I had to give in and get saved.

I was pretty young when I figured it out. I had a pretty tough time with it at first, so I really don't think there was a cause except reason. I became OK with it after I watched/read Carl Sagan and saw that there were others that though that way and that it wasn't just me.
The more I looked at Christianity the less I thought of it, both from a logical stand point and a moral one. The Bible is really a eye-opening read. The god in the Old Testament is really quite the tyrant, but I didn't see that until well after.

Oh, I love how you put "Christian" in brackets, it's a variation on the "no TRUE Christian would ____" tactic. I have news for you. Those people who go around screwing people over are Christians. Not "Christians", Christians.
Every Christian on this planet belongs to a cult. It's as simple as that. I have NEVER believed in this kind of crap, and I think that the posts here illustrate beautifully that the members of this cult are complete nutters. I think their dark-ages mentality is obsolete and a threat to the advancement of modern society. How do I know evolution is a fact? Have you ever studied evolution? If you had, you wouldn't ask such a stupid question. Your cult is backward, with it's head planted firmly in the sand, and when you stick your head in the sand, you get your a s s kicked.

The Christian responsible for Atheism? No more or less I would have to blame the bible & science The actions of Christians are a good reason but can hardly be solely responsible

I became Atheist when I stopped believing in God. I was going through a hard time, I was 14 and cutting, doing drugs, failing school, going through depression, my father had just walked out, my mother and I were fighting, etc. and it seemed the more I prayed, the worse it would get. I figured, why would any "great God" let that happen to his followers.

Looking at other religions then going back to look at mine. I realized that its all idiotic. Even if Evolution was wrong that still wont get you the right religion. I dont like any abrahamic religions. If anything i would be a Buddhist.

The bible has been proven over and over again to be false. The Catholic church killing people in the name of Christ. A god that kills woman and children for no reason. A vengeful god, a god that wants you to worship him and no other god, A god that lets disasters happen and does not help people suffering, BUT, he loves you. Yea right.
The bible and preachers use the illusion of hell to scare people into believing there is a better place called heaven. Let's face it. No-body wants to spend eternity suffering. The church uses this ancient parable to frighten the masses into believing. Besides, it is 2007 and look around you. I stopped believing in fairy tales when I was around 10. Cool question though.

Though I was raised Catholic, none of it ever made sense to me. My own rational thought is to blame. I mean, God, some guy in the sky? I don't mean to be inflammatory, that's just what I thought. I mean, are you guys serious?
PS Evolution is fact because it happens constantly and this has been observed in nature. While you may have some room to debate the theory that it explains how life flourished, you can't even begin to say that living creatures do not evolve. I'm sorry, but this is rhetoric that churches feed you that is flat out false. Period.

I'm not sure how you figured that the cause of Atheism is "Christianity"...Atheism has been around long before Christianity in all its various forms....
Atheism is not a reaction to religions...It is simply the lack of belief in gods...We are born without this belief, society/parents attempt to indoctrinate this belief, some of us just do not accept it...

It wasn't any one Christian, rather an entire realm of false beliefs which led me to my apostasy. I was raised Catholic. I decided in my early 20s that science made more sense and had all the right answers.
