my dr prescribed it for my excruciating back aches. my whole back is tight & knotted, have been getting massages, but can only afford so many. maybe i pulled a muscle, but it is my whole back not just one particular area, so he gave me naproxen (anti-inflammatory) while is basically a prescribed aleve. it's not working yet, but it has only been 1 day...i think he's afraid to prescribe a pain med

Naproxen has to build up in the blood to reach theraputic level. It works as an anti-inflammatory, which will help your muscles heal. It relieves the pain by encouraging the muscles to relax, and although it's not the strongest on the market it is one of the better ones and lasts longer with a smaller dose. In your case, if the muscles can be relaxed, the pain will lessen. In addition to the medication, can I suggest a soak in a really hot tub of water? If it's possible to get to a pool or hot tub, that's even better. You can float in the water, and that will take some of the strain off the back, which in turn will encourage the muscles to relax. Also, if you can find an incline board and lie on that- gravity will also help pull things. I also suffer back pain, and I use a homemade incline board. I prop the ironing board on the couch, and then lie upsidedown on that. It looks odd, but it helps stretch the spine back out straight and the vertebra to re-align themselves. While massages are great when you can get them, sometimes even they aren't the whole answer. I also take Naprosyn (Aleve), and it works well for me. But it can take a day to kick in, especially if things are really bad. My doctor has me take two to start, and then take one every 4-6 hours after that, to get it into the system faster. I've been taking it for nearly a decade now, without a problem. I also discovered it was great for monthly cramps, better than Motrin, matter of fact. But different drugs work differently for people. If it doesn't seem to help in a few days, I'd certainly take it up with the doctor again.

You should probably also be on a muscle relaxer, not a strong pain medication. See what the doctor thinks of that.
Be sure to take the naproxen with food. It can be hard on the stomach otherwise.

Street value? That is sold in the store over the counter as Aleve. All you have to do is take 2 to equal that dosage. I guess you can buy 60 or 80 of them for about $7.00 at the grocery store. Just my opinion.

Use ibruprofren, Aleve and others full of sodium, bad for dehydration, thus causing lees water in joints and muslces and overall cells of your body.

Taking any medicine drink a lot of water. Water helps your overall health as well, stay off caffeine also.
