If you itemized your deductions on Schedule A LAST year (for the 2005 tax year), you will need to file an amended return for 2006. If you took the standard deduction for 2005, you can ignore that 1099-G.

MO sends everyone a 1099-G but only the folks who itemized the previous year need to worry about it.

If you itemized last year and deducted state income tax paid, then yes, you would have to file an amended return. If you took the standard deduction last year, then you're OK and don't need to amend your return.

You must amend your return.

No one should ever file their return until the first part of Feb. unless they are sure they have all their 1099s and W-2s.
