Im 15.5, and Ive been wanting a moped, then I noticed so many rules and regulations. Let's say I got my learner's permit, can i drive my moped around now? What type of motorcycle license does California require? M1? M2? I expect to be driving to school by the next school year.

Please don't refer me to http://www.dmv.ca.gov because there are only 5 documents thatinclude the word moped, and they are based on fees.

moped or harley , a motorcycle liscence is required and that requires a driving tesat as well as formal instruction on two-wheeled motorized vehicles. a learner's permit is only valid with a fully liscenced drivewr in the vehicle. it is not a liscence to drive a car or any other motorized vehicle regardless of where you live.

I am going to refer you to "www.dmv.ca.gov" because you were looking for the wrong thing.. Go to that site. In the upper right corner you will see a box that says "Search DMV site". Enter "Instruction Permit" and click "GO". Go down the list to, and click on "Provisional Instruction Permit". Here you will find out all the information you need to know about learner permits and mopeds.

as far as i know a 50cc or under moped is legal in all 50 states w/o a license or fees of any kind......plus like 100 mpg, just not as safe as a car

No, Mike- A 50cc is OFF-ROAD legal in all 50 states. In fact, to be street legal it needs to be 99cc or more. You can ride it without a license, but only on private property. -Not even in a public parking lot. But you can ride your moped, dirt bike, or ATV to school if there's nothing but farms between home and school, and you stay off the road. Just watch out for the landmines going through the pastures.

If it's operated on public roads, a license is required.

umm idk about california but in other states you have to have an "m" endorsment to drive a motorcycle and if it's a permit you can only drive on surface streets (no freeways) so if you have the "m" sure.
