My friend is worried that he would come out positive because he was inside a car when all of his friends were smoking. So would this affect him like if he was the one somking it directly?

If you havent smoked in years you could have gotten high and been fine. The average time it takes to pass THC from one time use is 2-3 days. But, since your question is about second hand smoke, the army did a test where they put a non-smoker in a room and pumped smoke in for five hours a day. It took two days for the person to test positive. This was a while ago, but the point stands. You need a lot of second hand smoke to fail.

Not really sure about the 'secondhand inhaling' issue, however, I do know that if you eat a salad (12 hrs. prior to the urine test) it will come back positive.
It happened to a friend of mine.

What you inhale does end up in your blood stream and thus, gets dumped into your urine, but I do not know how much it takes to show up on a test like that.

most likely not... you would have had to inhale quite a lot of smoke on a regular basis

Not likely, there isn't enough of the active chemical, THC, in exhaled smoke.

It can show up, it also depends on different factors like body weight since it is in your fat cells, and your fluid intake.
