My cat has been sitting in one particular area, almost the exact same spot by the inch, over the last 3-5 days. He hasn't peed, he's not sitting on top of anything, he's not hidden at all. Why would he suddenly be obsessed sitting in one area of the house? I don't have any other pets, and we've lived here almost a year. I've never seen him do this before!

You said you and your cat have lived there for ALMOST a year...perhaps your cat just finally found a place he/she likes...and I'm sure you don't sit in front of him all day and stare...he probably pees, but just not at the same time you are around or looking at him...

Is he lying on tile, linoleum, or any other surface that may be cooler to the touch?

I noticed my cat was only sleeping on tile and linoleum, and was very lethargic. It turns out she had a fever, and was trying to cool herself down.

If your cat does not seem like his usual self in any other way, you may want to take him to the vet.

My cat picks a favorite spot to camp out in for a few days or weeks at a time. Just when you think that's her spot, she starts living someplace different. Lately she's been under the Christmas tree, balanced on a soft briefcase, and behind the entertainment center (right now).

Cats are funny. Enjoy. :)

Good luck to you and your cat, and I hope this helps. :)

Oh noo! nononono
Take him to the vet NOW ! He has cystitis!!!! Check if his lil penis is out, and if its red and swollen... if it is then it is most definitely cystitis. Also if he is loosing droplets of pee that look pinkish (yep thats blood in the pee), and hasn't been eating much or drinking water.... well those are other symptoms. You need to take him to the vet A-S-A-P. Even If he doesn't have cystitis if he isn't moving at all and behaving differently like that it means that he's in pain.
Cystitis is a bladder and urethral infection, very common in male cats, specially if they're neutered. Small debris caused by accumulated minerals in the bladder obstruct the urethra and the cat can't pee, this causes him pain, discomfort, severe irritation, and lots of inflammation in all of his urinary sistem. It's a condition called Feline Urinary Syndrome. He needs medical attention very soon because this condition is serious. My cat has it.
When I took him to the vet they gave him anti-inflamatory shots and they told me to change his food for a better quality one, and to give him chicken stock so I increase his water intake (this prevents the stones from forming). If you act fast your kitty will be just fine but he needs to go to the vet now.

he probably leaves to go pee when you're asleep or not in the room, and I'm guessing he lies the Spot. our cat has a few spots that she loves (kitchen table, under beds, in closets, on top of pie safe) where we really know where to look. Those places are all easy to defend or to see from, and she likes that. I wouldn't worry unless you have a problem with the cat in that spot. if you do, just shoo him.

Is he still breathing ??? Maybe his time is over ??? If he's still with us, you might try to tempt him away with a treat or some catnip.... sitting in one spot can't be too good for your carpet ! One question though... has anyone ever died in your home... more specifically in that spot ??? Cats are very sensitive to paranormal activity and often do this in areas where paranormal activity occurs !
