Generally not. If you file a paper return you must attach all W2s to the return.

Some of the tax prep mills are advertising that they can do your return form your final pay stub but I'd advise against that. There have been several posts from folks who did just that only to get their W2 and discover that the amount they claimed for earnings or withholdings was wrong. There are a number of ways that this can happen -- retirement plans, pre-tax health insurance deductions, cafe spending plans, etc. Now those folks will have the extra hassle and expense of filing amended returns on Form 1040X.

Best bet: Wait the week or so for the other W2 and do it right the first time.

Good answer Bostonian. You can "pre-file" your taxes with a pay stub, but you have to go back to the "tax prep mill" and finish up when you get your W-2. The only problem with doing that are the fees - you double up on bank fees and finance charges! It's handy at the beginning of the year if you are desperate for the money, but this late in January it'll pay you to wait. Contact your employer and find out where it is - they can make a replacement one if it comes up missing. If for some reason you can't get it, contact the IRS after February 15th and they'll help you (phone # in the link)

If by Jan 31st you have not received your W2, call the employer and ask them if they have been sent. If by Feb 15th you have not received it, call the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040 and file a W2 complaint. They wil take a report and send you a form that you can use as a subsitute, you will need your last paycheck stub when you call, along with the name, address and phone# of the employer and what dates you worked for them

No, you have to wait until you have all of them or you'll cause yourself more problems than you want to have.
