During the last couple of weeks I have had about 3 severe heartburn episodes, my symptoms are, the pain starts below the rib cage then spreads right over my chest, it is so painful that I double up ,it also makes my jaw and teeth ache, I have a high pain threshold but this last one actually made me cry, it was an intense dull ache, what do you think?? I took 6 antacid pills and it went away it usually lasts about 5/8 mins. Thanks so much for your help.

your going to think I'm crazy, but peel a potato, and eat it (raw), one of those remedies, but it actually works. that work for instant relief, but the way you talk, you might have an ulcer, or something going on with your esophagus. call the doc

yeah i know people say use antacids, but technically your usally not to exceed a certain # of mg/day. if your having symptoms every 5-8min, the potato might work until the dr appointment comes.

The sense of heartburn can be caused by more than stomach acid imbalance...
Best check with a doc... 50's -ish???
As an aortic dissection survivor (for now!), see a doctor/reference cardiac specialist. Sounds like more than heartburn to me. I suspect antacids are not doing anything... just filling in time until the attack subsides...
repeat: see a doc.... CT scan may be required....
DO NOT F*** AROUND WITH THIS!!!!

There are a lot of factors to consider. like have you had these heartburns before. hearthburn have a lot of origin the most common is that the gastric acid has touch some part of your esophagus thus making the burning sensation so you may or may not have a esophageal sphincter problem. but still there are a lot to consider...

If it is that bad I would go see the doc, but until then watch what you eat and when you sleep keep you head up a little or move the bed on a slant. That helps for me because I have GERD.
Well good Luck
Hope you feel better!!

You may have high blood pressure!! or something more serious, go see a doctor.

Also people think they always have to much acid in their stomach, sometimes you dont have enough that causes the pain too.

Use antacids regularly, but if problem persists you may want to be checked by your doctor for conditions that are more severe and better treated by prescription medications.
