if you want to file and get your 4.45 back go for it. if the dependents are your children, you may also qualify for the EIC, which will get you a more then that back if your over 24 and that was your only income, you should get around 2 grand. if you have a phone, for this year only, you can also get a 30 dollar rebate

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $39,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing. To locate the nearest VITA site, call 1-800-829-1040.

If you have 2 dependent children you may qualify for the EITC. If your earned income is as you say, your EITC refund could be as much as $2,390! One poster seems to be saying that you must be over 24 to get the EITC. That is NOT correct. There is no age requirement IF you have dependent children that you are supporting.

At the very least you should prepare your tax return and find out.

Yes you need to file, but dont take one of those quick refunds, its really a loan and they charge the crap out of you for it. There are many tax volunteers around, find one and get them to help you. IF you have two children, and your income was $5980, I am sure you will qualify for several credits. So get some good free tax help. The governemnt will give you some of the $20,000 I paid in. Dont worry, I would rather you have it than the arabs.
