Get another female and he will be fine. Birds tend to move on with their lives if you allow them to. Go get him a new mate and watch how happy you make them both!

Hi there. It is difficult to know what killed your female bird without a necropsy. A way that is effective to prevent disease is to have an appropriate diet. Convert your male's diet by one fourth weekly to a good pellet diet. All seed diets lead to malnutrition. Add 10% seed and 10-20% fruits and veggies. Give chopped egg with the crumbled shell 1-2 times a week. Avoid avocados and chocolate which are toxic to birds.Sanitize the cage well and rinse well. Parakeets don't mate for life. Train your bird 10-15 minutes a day. Since you are flock leader, after you tame him teach him to enjoy baths of 2 inches of warm water. Flick the water with your fingers and act happy and enthusiastic. Parakeets are small parrots with a lot of intelligence. This thinking is fairly new information. Have the bird bond with you. If you need tips on training feel free to e-mail me. In this system your e-mail is not revealed to others. Good luck and have a tweet year. I'm sorry for your loss. Things should improve.

Parakeets often live to be 8-10 years old, so your male could have a pretty long life ahead. Either play with him every day, or maybe get him a new friend. Talk to him. Parakeets like to be in the room where people eat, it makes them feel more a part of the flock.

Parakeets can live to be up to 25 years old with proper care. Whether or not your male bird will die soon depends on why your female died. If it was because of something like a tumor, your other bird could live a full life. If it was something like teflon poisoning, your other bird will probably die soon.

My daughter had two 7 year old canaries, the female died over 2 years ago, the male has been as happy as a sand-boy ever since and is coming up 10.

Sorry to hear that your pet died. Maybe if you buy the male parakeet a mirror to look into and a new toy, it might help him to not feel lonely.

I'm sorry about your loss. Talk to a vet that specializes in aviary medicine and ask if the surviving parakeet will grieve itself to death. It may be advisable to get another bird

go out and buy a mirror, it will keep him company and will probably live longer. my 2nd parakeet died a couple months after the 1st, and that was cuz he was obese i think. but usually the other bird will die a few months after the other one dies, but if you buy a mirror for it you will probably fix that problem. sorry to hear about your bird dying, and good luck with the other!

The male might live longer. A mirror would be good because if you get another girl, he might to take to her as the previous one. Parrots make strong bonds with their mates.

My parakeet live for about 10 years. He never had a mate. Make sure he has gravel, it helps digest the food.
