I have a certain class "pipe" that has smoke residue inside the chamber. I have used alcohol and salt countless times. The last time I used so much salt there was more salt then alcohol. It still cleans the glass making it shiny and nice but there are still residue stains that will not come off.

get a pot..full it with water...heat the water...put pipe in water before the water boils...use tongs and carefully swirl the pipe around...the residue will come off like a virgin's panties at the prom...discard brown water..if you want to keep and reuse the residue strain and place on a paper towel..let dry for many hours. Be Careful during process because glass is fragile and even more so when heated, but this method is the best true and tested. Happy trails.

P.S. if glass is color changing-don't worry if colors disapear, they will come back when pipe is used again

I bought some stuff from a local shop. It's pretty much the same mix as what you were using, but they had me cover all the holes, except the mouth piece, fill it with an even mixture of 'salt' and 'alcohol' and shake it vigorously for one minute. It doesn't get all of it out, but then I just went back in with a q-tip dipped in the cleaner and got the rest. It probably depends a lot on how resin-y your pipe is, too. Just keep working at it. Use a pipe cleaner from a craft store. They're cheap and fit into anything.

Well if its a tobacco pipe and you don't care if you retrieve the resin or not just get in there with a toothbrush, tooth picks, and some alcohol OR warm soapy water.

If it was used for marijuana....heat a pot (no pun intended :) of water until it is boiling, drop the pipe in (assuming it is metal, glass, or stone) and let it sit in the boiling water until you feel the resin is loosened. After a few minutes, pull it out and pick the resin out with a tooth pick.

Regular rubbing alcohol not quite the ticket. Soak it in everclear. This has gotten my stuff clean as a whistle. But it needs to soak for a couple days.
