I believe if someone poses for that camera they show the emotion that they want the world to believe they are feeling at the moment. Pictures that are not posed for can show multiple emotions.
Usually the emotion seen in a photo is actually the emotion of the person viewing it.

It's the photographer and their subject(s) that create the emotion captured in the photo, not the camera itself. It may be a spontaneous moment which is documented by a particular shot or something specifically intended to convey a particular feeling or message.
For me, photographs represent a brief glimpse at a particular moment in time and all its emotions, charm and character. It's sort of voyeuristic in nature - having the opportunity to observe something that you were not necessarily directly involved with.
Good luck!

The camera only records the presence or expressions of emotions in ones subject.
One is only limited by the model or subject's ability to express emotions.

A cameral can capture the full range of human emotions, but it's of course, dependent on the skill of the photographer.
