Is he sick, or need to be removed from the nest?

Most likely he has got frostbite. You need to protect them from the wind and severe cold weather. Putting some vaseline on the comb will help and keep watch for infection. He will most likely lose the part of the comb that is black and he may not be fertile until he has healed.

Frost bite more then likely. it will eventually dry up and fall off. Just the area that was frost bit, not the whole comb or wattle. it happens every year to ours in the winter time.

Sounds like he got frostbite of his comb and wattles. My heat went off in the henhouse once when I was a kid and raised chickens, and this happened to my chickens. Call your vet.

my bantam rooster got frost-bite during some really bad weather and his comb turned black, died and fell off
has yours been exposed to any winter weather?

Your brain is what's turning black. Roosters dont nest. Unless, however, your rooster is turing pato! if you catch my drift.

frostbite you can either leave it as it is or cut it off. it won't make him sterile.
