I swear my cat thinks he's a person. He LOVES people food. Chicken, steak, pork chops, sausage and esp. yogurt and pudding are among his favorites. He's even been known to eat soup and pasta. Is this normal? My other cat will not eat people food. And just how bad is people food for cats?

Hi there...although there are many cats who will eat just about anything we eat, there are many human food ingredients that can be toxic to cats such as garlic, onions which causes Hemolytic Heinz Body anemia as an example. Additionally, many human foods are metabolized much differently in cats and it is one of the leading causes of feline obesity and associated health-related health problems as well.

I have read that cats should only be fed cat food. Okay, so that's what the experts say. I have two cats. My 12 yr. old male cat seems to think he is entitled to his share of our meals every night. Sound familiar? He acts like a dog. We adore and spoil him, so of course he always gets his own little plate (on the floor, however,) and gets little pieces of our meal. He mostly likes meat products, except for hot dogs- (can't say that I blame him, I'd rather have porterhouse steak also.) My other cat, a young female, does not beg at mealtimes, usually only eats her dry cat food, etc., with one exception: She loves raspberry twinkies! My husband was kidding around and held his out to her thinking it was safe, and she just went to town on that cream filling, so he gave her a few small pieces. So now she gets her people food too. Also, they both love yogurt and ice cream. They're both in the best of health, and my vet says it's okay in moderation, so we're all happy.

Enjoy your kitties enjoying themselves!

People food as a regular part of any pets diet is bad. I know a woman who inherited her dad's sog when he died. He had only fed it bologna and hot dogs and other meat. The dog developed a tumor that the vet was amazed at. The vet said stop feeding it that way, but the dog wouldn't eat anything else.

Limit the people food to very small amounts at most, it is not good for them
Give mine just little bits of people food once a day, they are 23 years old now.
The logic worked for me

My kitten thinks she's a goat. She eats shoes, cardboard boxes, wood, old tires, couches, belts, cameras, toliet paper, etc.

People food won't hurt him, unless he has a allergic reaction to it.

My cat eats green olives, lettuce, pizza crust and whatever little bites I give her when she begs. She tilts her little head and looks at me with those big eye pleadingly. I can't resist.
