When I first god my chihuahua, I was only working part time, and I lived out of the country where I could bring my dog everywhere. Here I work full time, and I wonder....does my dog get lonely during the day? Does a chihuahua only want to be with it's owner...or does it want a little chihuahua friend? I don't want another dog because I don't think I would love it the same....but if my dog wants a friend...then I would do it. I don't want her to be sad all day long.

By the way, she does not appear sad when I get home. She is always happy to see me.

u seem to love your dog very much but i think it should b fine as long as it's not being naughty or distroying things.u can buy toys to keep it occupied like the kong toys that u can fill with peanut butter-not too mucht though (i use 1 and my dog loves it ) or bones and take it for a walk every day or second day so it can get out and exercise and have fun.but if it dosn't seem sad then it's most likely fine it prob sleeps all day

Dogs are pack animals and do not like to be alone at all.
You will love a new addition just as much, it just takes a bit of getting used of an new little pup. The older dog sometimes takes a couple of weeks to accept a new addition, but when they do, they are lifetime friends beyond belief. Just remember, the first dog is the boss and that's they way the cookie crumbles..if you let them work things out themselves it always is best. We just adopted a new 11 month old golden retriever and we have a 12 year old retriever and a14 year old spaniel. The new guy is bottom of the pack and he know it...but is fine with it.
We also puppy sit our daughters border collie all day while she works. he gets very lonely and destructive if left alone. I can go out and leave him here with my dogs for hours and he doest do a thing wrong because he isn't lonely.

I would get him a little chihuahua friend. I did the same with my cat, I felt bad when she was alone all day all the time (though cats can also be solitary) but I got another kitty for her to play with and she's never been happier. I thought I could never love another the same either but actually he wound up being a complete doll, so I'm very happy I got him.

Yes, I'm sure your little one gets lonely. Are you able to come home during lunchtime? Maybe you could ask a friend to come over during the time you are gone and let her out and play with her a little. They also have doggie daycare that you may want to consider a couple times a week.

This might seem crazy to a lot of people, but I leave my TV (Animal Planet)on for my dogs while I'm gone. It probably does nothing for them, but it makes me feel better that they have a little something to listen to and that the house isn't dead quiet.

Don't wprry. She'll get used to it. Just give her time to adjust. About a week. My dog stays home alone all the time... All dogs are happy to see their owners weather they were gone for 10 minutes or 5 days!!!

If she's not showing any behavior changes I think she's doing fine. Also, dogs that have separation issues also seem to get destructive. Watch for signs of this.
My aunt had a schnauzer that would get lonley, so she would leave a radio playing on a soothing station and that seemed to help her dog. It wouldn't hurt, right?
