so i've had this best friend from the beginning of the year named Mark. We're in the ninth grade. He liked me in the beginning of the year, but I turned him down because I value our friendship so much. I'm considered a very attractive girl at our school, so I guess that's why he liked me so much. Anyway, about 4 months have gone by since then, and I guess we've gotten friendlier (i'm a natural flirt) but I never lead him on. I always talk about guys i LIKE in front of him, so he should get the idea that I'm not into him. Lately I've been getting text messages from him saying "Hey beautiful" or "Hey gorgeous" and this morning I was kind of quiet so he gave me a hug and it ended up being really awkward. He's friends with these people from a local band, and one guy in it likes me a LOT and I think he's ok. The guys a total perv though, and apparently wants to "bone me." Mark told the guy that I'm easy and I would go really far with him. Now I'm just hurt. What's up with him?

I'm so sorry sweetie. what mark did was just mean, and I think I know why he did it. He's jealous of you. mark wants you for himself, and he knows this other guy likes you, so he just decided to say something mean about you because he knows he can't have you, and maybe if he said that you were easy, it would cause this guy not to like you as a serious girlfriend.
you have to talk to mark. he owes you some answers, an apology, and he has to fix what he messed up, your reputation. he needs to tell this other guy that he lied about you being easy, and he needs to do it with you there. mark having a crush on you, and being jealous of you is pretty normal, but when a guy who is by the way, supposed to be your best friend, goes and tells someone something that could ruin your reputation, he's way out of line.

With the comments that he said to the other guy, I wouldn't feel that he is truly a best friend. My idea behind that is that he really still likes you and is trying to hurt your rep with other guys so that he can be with you. Dispite that, there is really no reason that he should say what he did. You need to confront him and let him know that you were hurt by what he said. He may not have known it was hurting you.

wow that was rude. But don't worry don't let him get to you. He was probably trying to make you feel bad because you turned him down. Try not to hang around him for a little bit and if he ask why then be honest and tell him the truth.
