He hasn't eaten anything today. He takes a few nibbles if kiblets (mixed with premium canned food) and then he has to get a drink of water and then stops eating. He just goes and plays. Does this point to something wrong? Why would he "try" to eat, then need water? I feed him MediCal development formula bought from the vet and the canned is Eagle Pack holistic. He was eating fine since I brought him home from Humane Society 4 weeks ago. He's very playful and seems happy, healthy and is growing. What could be wrong?

Just check the kitten for any other unhealthy signs like bleeding gums, distended tummy, frequent urination, etc.

In case of illness due to lesions in mouth, one should avoid offering of bone mixed diet to the cats in such occasions to avoid aggravation of lesions and supplement with B complex vitamins especially thiamine.

If it takes excess water, don't rule out feline diabete also...

Any how, please consult a vet for immediate cure...

No, your kitty is probably fine. But, since he came from a shelter... a quick trip to the vet would be a good idea. Shelter cats are exposed to a host of... well, :"Cooties"! You never know what this kitty was exposed to. A cat won't eat if it has a cold and can't smell it's food. A cold can incubate for a while before coming out. A vet visit would be a very good idea since you have concerns.

Try switching foods, your cat just may not like what he is eating. Since he is more comfortable with you now, he might not be afraid to now show you he is unhappy with your cuisine. Try a different brand. Purina and Meow Mix both have kitten food. Kittens usually go for them.

Kittens LOVE to play. Try using the food as the toy. My kitten Emma has some food issues to. She would rather play than eat any time! To encourage her to eat, I use "Temptations" cat treats as bait. I bat it around and she goes for it. She eventually eats the treat and comes over for the rest.

My other cat Oliver likes "Pit Pat Candy For Cats". It is a small fish smelling mint for cats. I buy them at PetSmart and Stop N' Shop. When I can not find my cat, I shake the can of mints. He comes bolting out of what ever hidey hole he is in and gets his candy.

Don't worry, you cat will eat eventually. Just be patient.

Good Luck!

Cats are strange critters. If this is the first day, keep in mind they're night animals. Check the food bowl in the morning. If no change, keep an eye on him and if after another day, no food, force feed and take him to the vet for a check up. Could be he doesn't like the food but after 4 weeks, he should be used to it. Just keep an eye out.

Maybe has a sore throat. Try some other simple food like bread in watery chicken broth. Only for a couple days though. If still having problems, contact a vet. But our pets get sick like we do, from a draft when sleeping or changes in the weather.

No milk!!!!! rigidity some water if something, definitly not milk. human beings have the misperception that milk is sturdy for their kitties, and it incredibly is not. It feels like the cat is extremely ill and desires medical interest as quickly as accessible. you may convey it to a vet, or while you at the instant are not likely to maintain it convey it to a safeguard it incredibly is not any-kill and which will nurse it back to wellbeing. The kitty could have parasites, heartworm, something..it needs to work out a vet authentic away.

He's probably just not hungry. My cat never eats all of his food in one sitting. Also, as long as he is playful and running around and seems to be enjoying himself, odds are good that he's ok.

Cats can get finicky. One of my three cats decides about every two months that he wants something different. So, I must go buy a different brand. Two months later, same thing again.

you need to force down water to prevent dehydration, use a syringe without the needle or a medicine doppler.
