You can't. I'm American and I couldn't get in with an expired American passport right now. I just hope we're not planning on putting up a fence between Canada and us, the Canadians have been good neighbors both here at home and globally....witness that no one is trying to blow them up.

You should renew your passport. But I believe you can drive over the border without having to show a passport, in most cases. However, if you look suspicious, the customs officials at the border may ask to see your passport.

To save yourself some trouble, just get it renewed.

You can only drive into the U.S. for the next couple of weeks I think.

You cannot fly without a current passport

as long as you stay on the ground all you need is a drivers license and/or birth certificate.

If you fly into or out of Canada to the states you have to have an up to date passport.

Don't know where you live but go to the ministry in your area and you can get it renewed in about a week if you have your new photos and other requirements on hand. but you have to go in person not by Canada Post.

Fly to Mexico than cross the border with all the illegal stains on a mattress. After all we have seen what happens to border patro; agents who actually try to do their job and protect us Americans.
