New to Fremont and would like to join a playgroup so my 9 month old son and I can meet other moms and kids in the area. Was involved in two playgroups back in TX (a neighborhood playgroup and the Mom's Club).

go to www.momsclub.org. There will be links to local chapters of the International MOMS club.
Also - most areas have sometype of "Child's" Magazine that is local. And a lot of groups advertise in that.
And just an internet search with your town and "Moms Group" or "Playgroups" should bring up a lot of hits.

Might be the same thing as above, but theres also national groups called Mothers and More - MOM - that do playgroups.
