the seller agreed to give me a title in a few days and never got back to me. That was over a year ago and I still have a nice truck sitting in my garage that I cannot drive. I checked the title on-line and it is clean. The truck was registered out of state. Could someone inform me of a way to obtain a legal title?

If you paid money out and didn't get a title, you didn't buy a truck. There is no such thing as a "clean" title, or a "dirty" one. Every vehicle has a title, but you don't have the one for the one sitting in your garage.

Contact the seller and demand either a clear title, or your money back.

Besides, someone owes the tax on the vehicle, and the registration. Do you really want to pay someone elses bill on it?

Ignore the advice you are getting to file for a lost title. If you do, it won't come to you, it will go to whoever is named on the title as the owner, not you.

It varies from state to state. Contact your DMV to find out possible solutions. It may have been stolen though in which case you are S.O.L. If you have a bill of sale or proof that you bought it they might be able to issue a new title but it sounds like it will be very difficult. Never hand over the cash without the title!

Go to the DMV and have them do a search on the title, if it comes back clear you can obtain a new title and register the vehicle. It only takes a couple of weeks for them to check it out for you.
Good Luck.

GO BACK TO THE SELLER AND TELL HIM YOU WANT THE TITLE. IF NOT APPLY FOR A LOST TITLE.
