We went on puppyfind.com and found a Norwich Terrier for $950, which was very cheap compared to others on there. The dealer seemed reputable with several excellent reviews, claimed that this puppy was , "registered/registerable (AKC, NKC, etc.)...", and he worked with paypal. When asked about the lineage of the dog, and about AKC numbers, he responded after a week of stalling with a load of garbage about the AKC being a bunch of crooks, that his dogs parents were imported from Belarus and Poland, and that they had superior bloodlines to any AKC dog. After receiving this response, we have terminated the deal and are in process of getting our deposit back. I'm just wondering if this is a common occurance? It's the first time we've tried to buy a dog on the net, and will be our last! By the way, the puppy and listing can be found at puppyfind.com with the name Amallaf2pend. Thanks for reading all this! :-)

JUST AS CLARIFICATION ... I've NEVER bought an animal over the internet, and every dog I've ever owned has been adopted or rescued, including my current dog, which is a mutt. I was suspicious from the beginning as well, but we had our heart's set on a Norwich, and $300 isn't gong to make or break me. That said ... I AM getting the deosit back, one way or another! ;-)

It sounds like someone has a crappy dog that they are trying to sell as wonderful. It is possible that it may of been a puppymill. In the future, looking on puppyfind is okay just be sure to see the puppy first hand (or at least have them take a picture of the pup with something specific, like a piece of paper with a specified number on it just to prove that it is really their puppy) before you purchase.

After reading the ad, I do think that it sounds like a puppymill. They list multiple breeds of dogs that they breed, and they have the puppy listed ridiculously cheap. They have 28 puppies listed on puppyfind which just supports my idea of them being a puppymill, and MO is a notorious puppymill state.

How about visiting your local shelter for a comparable dog, or even trying to find a breed-specific rescue organization? The cost will be far less and you'll be rewarded by helping a good dog find a good home.

I'm going to rant a bit here, but it never ceases to amaze me the money people will spend a purebred, even an alleged one in unknown health and sight unseen - all becuase it's a "purebred!" Yet perfectly lovely and loving dogs crowd our shelters, the vast majority of which are dropped off by people that got tired of them, found the cute little puppy grew into a dog, didn't understand the responsibility of owning a dog or didn't understand dog behavior and how to train.

Assuming you do not fit these categories and have done breed research, know what your getting into and are willing to commit for the life of the dog (little terriers are among the more long-lived of dog breeds), then please consider a terrier mix at a shelter (although you'd be amazed at the variety of purebreds also available) or a breed rescue group.

It's your money, but I urge to consider the possibilities!

I'm surprised that anyone would try to buy a puppy over the internet - you should see the puppy before you buy it, see the conditions it was raised in, meet the parents, and make sure that the puppy has a personality that you like. It's not like you're buying a coat or a pair of shoes.

As far as is this common - you should have started seeing red flags with the "which was very cheap compared to others on there." As they say, "you get what you pay for"...

Contact the Norfolk and Norwich Terrier Club, they should be able to point you towards a reputable breeder.

Gee, ya think???? It is NEVER a good idea to buy a pup off the internet from someone you have never seen.
GO TO A REAL BREEDER. It may cost you a little more, but you will get more.

'Nuff said.
