The bible and other texts of the major religions were always intended to be a substitute for real knowledge. They may record events which may or may not have occurred thousands of years ago, but it’s only been a relatively short time since they were mass produced. This time also coincided with a marked increase in printed knowledge like that of encyclopedias and scientific hypothesis.

In today’s world, religion and the internet aren’t exactly suited to each other. Sure there are online bibles but they’re really only a different form of the written text, whereas an online encyclopedia is radically different to its printed counterpart. The ability to follow links to learn the meaning of terms whilst one is reading means that learning potential is dramatically increased.

By its inherent nature, religion cannot counter the internet as it has countered so many of mankind’s attempts to progress away from it and as a result, religion must inevitably fall by the wayside.

It's amazing how much you can get just from Wiki. It isn't the be all and end all of references, but it is informative. The Internet is about information, and people who don't want other people to know certain things don't like it. Did the Christians here enjoy how many people found out that Christmas was originally a pagan holiday and how dec. 25 was not the date of Jesus' birth? I think not. I enjoyed watching hundreds of people find out, though, knowledge is power.

Any religion that isn't based on the truth will suffer when knowledge becomes more widespread. But nothing in the Bible has ever been proved to be false. If it had you can be sure that you wouldn't need access to the Internet to find out about it.

No, for many centuries the Bible has withstood the closest scrutiny. Scientists claim that there are historical inaccuracies one century and the next century an archeologist digs something up that proves the Bible was right all along.

The emphasis people place on certain virtues in their religion is based upon that individual person. For example, not everyone takes the Bible literally, but rather some people tend to believe it is completely a myth, or take parts literally, or even take the whole Bible as an allegory. Whenever you have masses of people commenting on one religion, such as on Wikipedia, here, or any other open discussion place, generally speaking, most of the people don't even believe in what the comment on, thus creating false statements about one's religion. Online encyclopedias are just as much of a nemesis to religion as someone on the national television networks airring religious programs and religion history.

EIRESHANE cometh...on a white keyboard to say .... the obvious. All "RELIGIONS" say they have the right God.. DUH -- but not all can deliver eternal life -- not all have the power of the Holy Spirit -- not all can discern the Holy Spirit -- not all teach what Jesus and the 1st century Apostles taught -- not all know the same Jesus His 1st century Apostles knew -- not all have an on-going relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ -- not all know Jesus was God the Father incarnate -- not all know Jesus ... Son of Man + Son of God lives forever as our Advocate and Mediator - our nexus - between us and God the Way, the "door", the "gateway" from humanity/flesh to deity/Spirit 2 Corinth 5:19 / Coloss 2:9 / 1 Tim 3:16 / John 14:9 / John 12:44-45 2 Sam 7:14 / Isaiah 7:14 / Isaiah 9:6 / Isaiah 35:4-5 / Isaiah 43:10-11 Isaiah 44:24 / Isaiah 52:6 / Hebrews 1:1-5 / Galatians 4:4 / John 8:24 -- all but one faith use "creeds" definitions and other writings to corrupt the written word of God into fables & gobbledygook Jesus said, Let the weeds grow with the wheat... He will sift them at the harvest, and the chaff will be thrown in the fire.

On the contrary, technology only amplifies our ability to serve God!

You seem to have this odd view that knowledge, science, and technology are opposed to God and most of the time that really isnt the case. Those are only simple tools. And if you follow the natural flow of knowledge, God is at the end of it and the master of it.

So while some people may intend to use those as a weapon against God, he is far more powerful and nothing challenges the timeless truth of Scripture and nothing can replace it.

It will only fall by the wayside if the person decides that he/she needs to break every single word and phrase down, instead of taking the word for what it is.

I think your ship sailed last week. The internet has made multiple translations and Bible encyclopedias along with other Bible study tools available to everyone has a computer. Some denominations are slowly dying, while others are exploding. Yeah, I think you missed the boat.

Any opposing view point is a threat to religion. However some are better at dealing with it. We are seeing a decline in religions in modern countries. Lets hope it continues.
