I have two male cats in the household, one is 11 years old and the other is 1 1/2. Why does he do this?

Cats often lick and nip. Nipping is a good sign. It is cat communication for "I Like you" or "Your alright in my book".

if the nip is too hard, you can correct the cat. Tell him to stop BUT DON'T HIT! It is not something you should discourage. This is a high praise compliment from your kitty.

All cats seem to do that - mine do. I believe they are just playing, because the bite is never really hard. Its a play bite, but they don't realize human skin is not as well protected by fur like their feline playmates. Watch your cats play. One will be carefully cleaning the other, pause, grapple...cat fight!!! They are just having a fun wrestle!

He probably tastes the salt on your skin and decides he wants more of it...hence the bite. No big deal....but you probably want to discourage him from doing that or he'll get used to it and end up biting someone else.

The licking is for love! The biting is for play or more attention please. Males and females do this! I have had both, one female so bad she would lick until she drooled! YUCK!
