You had decay that caused a cavity or hole in your tooth. The dentist removed, or what we call excavated the decay. Then a liner and a filling was placed to restore the tooth to it's natural shape and size. The decay was removed completely and the hole or cavity was filled so you should have no problems with the tooth if kept brushed and flossed. Hope I've been of some help in clarifying this for you.

A cavity is another name for tooth decay. This is a soft area of your natural tooth that is being broken down by bacteria.

When you go to the dentist for a filling the area of deacay is removed and a filling is placed. Yes, the decay is gone.

In the future that filling could leak and allow bacteria to seep under the filling which will cause decay again.

So...in the present the decay has been removed, but that doesn't mean in the future that filling will not need to be replaced.

You can avoid future cavities by brushing thoroughly at least 2 times a day and use an ANTIBACTERIAL MOUTHWASH to kill germs. Twice daily.

For now your cavity is patched. If the patch ever comes out, it will need to be done again.

Cavities don't get removed; they are actually small holes in your teeth. So when your dentist put a filling in, he/she filled in the hole. It should be fine now. Just keep brushing and taking care of your mouth, and you won't get any more!
