Where I live (Virginia), elementary school-age children who are not at school in the morning their parents are called first thing, if they don't get an answer then they call the cell phone numbers they have until they contact someone to make sure you are aware your child is not at school. I've actually been hunted down in another state because of the time difference I hadn't called into the school yet! It was very surprising, but comforting. This is something you should bring up with the administration and the PTA. In elementary school they should be proactive on absent children. There are plenty of bus stops where there are no adults present when the bus comes and who would know if a child didn't show up! You're a very caring parent to question this. The longer times passes when a child is missing before the authorities are alerted means it'll be much longer if ever the child will be returned. Press this issue, it's worth it! Good Luck!

I have two elementary school kids and one in junior high. My grade school is supposed to call me when the kids are absent, but they rarely actually do. My middle school has an automated system that calls home, but sometimes it doesn't get around to my number until days after the absence. I live very close to the schools, I can see them from my home so I don't worry about it as much as other parents surely do.
If you are concerned that you didn't recieve a call, maybe you should contact the school. It is possible that your child mentioned the appointment and that they felt they didn't need to call for that reason. If you find no satisfaction there, then contact the school board and ask about policy. If the school isn't following district policy, report it. If there isn't a policy in place, recommend that they create one for the safety of the students.

I totally know what you mean...Our school calls within the first hour of the morning if a child is not in class. They are also quick to react when a child does not come back from lunch or recess...I know because last year a child's father's new girlfriend picked the child up during lunch from the playground to go to an appointment which the dad and mom were aware of but didn't tell the school ahead of time. The school was locked down and the police were called. Everything worked out but it was a relief to know that the school took it that seriously. Your child's school should too and you should voice your opinion to the school's principal.

Each of my three children's schools always call to see why the children are out, even if they are a few hours late. Even sometimes when I call them out and the nurse does not get the message in time she calls back anyway. I think that all schools should have the same policy as the ones where I live. Also if I don't send a note when they go back to school even if I called then the children get detention.

In my area the middle and high schools call if a child is absent. Not the elementary schools. I had 3 teenagers in high school at the same time a few years ago and I got the way too often but it never told me which child missed that day and each child said it wasn't them. But I got the calls.

In my area when a parent signs a child out of school the child is then the parent's responsiblity, if the child returns to school the parent mus sign the child back in. If the child is not signed back in is the schools contention that the child is still under the care of the parent. Parents are sent a statement to that effect PRIOR to the first day of school and each child must return the statement signed by the parents by the end of the first week of school

In my school, they never called if someone was absent. Maybe if you miss so many days in a row, but it had to be extreem for them to even call home on pretty much anything.
I missed a lot of days in highschool (especially my senior year, because I only had to pass a couple classes), and they never called home. But then again, I always made up my work.

in the adventure that your baby is persistently being saved off college, they're probable only assuming which you won't be able to be stricken taking her alongside. after all, as you're saying, it is only her first year and that they don't be attentive to you or her that nicely. Draw those concerns up in a letter to deliver to the two the college and coaching boards and likewise make an appointment to circulate to the college your self to communicate this. i might additionally contain your physician so he can confirm that it's not a case of your daughter no longer likely to college yet fairly she would be able to't circulate. i don't be attentive to in case you have an allergies nurse (s/he will the be man or woman who has a tendency to run allergies clinics) as they could be the suitable man or woman to fairly have a communicate to the college approximately what your daughter's situations includes, how extreme that's or perhaps what the college ought to do if she has an attack in college. numerous faculties do only no longer understand that some babies are not in finished well-being and that they ought to be recommended until eventually now they start assisting mom and dad. this will additionally prepare them for while your daugher is illl and what they are in a position to do to make specific she does not fall in the back of. Yes, my middle school calls any kid's house if they are missing from just one period or the whole day, this way parents know about ditching kids. A automated call calls my house, but they call around 5:30-6:00 PM.. and it's just a voice telling you that your child has missed whatever periods he/she missed.
It's kind of pointless at my school, considering they call so late, you aren't informed asap.. but yeah, your school might be like mine and considering you made this like 4 hours ago, whitch is like 4:00pm here.. i sure hope you recieved your automated phone call, that is quite pointless from the school.. lol good luck!

I don't worry because I take my kids to school and pick them up
when it lets out. The school's policy here is if a child doesn't show without warning they call those parents and ask why. I worry every time I drop them off because of all the violence happening AT SCHOOL!!! I have seriously considered teaching
my kids at home myself.
