i worked febuary till may and then october till december i claimed exempt through october till december,but the beging of the year i had the max taken out. i want to know if i will have to pay back taxes for filing exempt.

Usually it will catch-up. So I'd stay on it.

Whether or not you have to file a return or pay any tax depends upon your total income, not how you filed your W4s.

If you are a single filer and earned $8,450 or more in 2006 you MUST file a tax return. If you earned less than that, you still must file to get a refund of any income taxes withheld from your pay.

You aren't likely to be penalized for filing exempt, but you might owe taxes when you file. You don't give enough info to answer that.

yes,because the other 4 mths you have to pay taxes on.
