I'm currently dating my bestfriend and while that sounds innocent enough, its a bit complicated. We met online two years ago. He's 16 and I'm 19 and while he sounds young, he's actually more mature than anyone would think. He starts college in July if that puts things in perspective. Anyway, we clicked and we've been best friends ever since and we just recently started 'going out' and people find it weird, not only because of the age difference, but because he lives in England and I live in the US. We have been talking online as well as phone and have been webcaming since we met. So it's not like we're complete strangers and neither of us are stalkers or something. I am also going to stay with him a week or so this summer. But everyone seems to think there is something wrong with this. Is there really anything wrong with this?

There is something wrong with this legally. It's called statutory rape. You cannot have sex with him.
Location matters as well. He is probably cheating on you right now. Men have sexual needs. He is no different. He is probably getting some from someone local right now.

I guess there's a chance you could get into legal trouble because he's under 18. But usually the parents are the ones that report you for that, so make sure mummy and daddy approve of your visit.
Otherwise, it's not like people can tell by looking at you guys that there's a big difference in age, so just don't bring it up and I'd bet most ppl won't ask.
Or, before they ask, mention that he's in college, and they'll just assume he's typical "college age"
Life's too short to care what other ppl think. I dated a woman 15 years older than me when I was only 18. Best 3 years o' my life.

Age and location does matter. No matter how book smart he is he is still just a child and so are you. Neither one of you should be thinking about becoming serious until you really find out who you are. Stay friends and pen pals when the two of you grow up maybe something more can come of your relationship.

Nothing is wrong with this if the two of you are happy that is all that matters. I am 29 dating a 41 year old so age does not matter. Do what makes you happy in the long run it is your life and you should live it to be happy not what others think should make you happy.

I think age when 16 does matter, he's a kid no matter how mature you think he is...Also location also matters a lot as well it's a very long shot as its probably better for you 2 to be friends only, you are only very young yourself so you will meet someone who will be better for you.....

It is a bit strange but only if you see more into it than it really is. You cant really be going out with him, I wouldnt look that deep into it, more like good friends at this point but once you've met in person maybe it will turn into something more

It sounds different because of the distance and because bestfriends usually hang out together. Things may change when you start communicating in the same room.

well in this country u can't legaly be with him/her. i don't know about england but maybe u should spend ur summer over there, to avoid legal problems.
