Absolutely!
The most common staph is Staphylococcus aureus and is present in most of the environment. Problems happen when it is introduced into a break in the skin and gets a foothold. Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus = MRSA is very serious problem. This is a certain strain of staph that is very resistant to normal antibiotics and it is dangerous. It is not exclusive to hospitals.

yes, and if anyone has not told you already, you carry around staph everywhere you go. it lives/resides on your skin-just like everyone else.
there are many factors that can cause the actual infection however, something like an illness that leaves your infection fighting cells low or an open wound can cause the infection to begin.
hospital staph is usually resistant to most antibitics. your more than likely to acquire staph such as this in the hosptial due to all the antibiotic soaps and scrubs that are widely used-this causes the virus to gain strength-the virus has figured out a way to by-pass the medications affectiveness.
you can still catch this form or other strains in or outside a hospital.

The Staph Aureus Bacteria lives within each of us in small amounts that our immune system can control. When our resistance is down due to other illness, stress, poor diet, or not enough rest, the bacteria can cause an infection. That is why it is important to eat right, get enough sleep, and reduce stress. When we live a healthy lifestyle, we help our immune system prevent and fight off infections.

sure!everyone has staph on their skin,at all times.we also have yeasts and many other microscopic yuckies-its only when they overgrow or get into the bloodstream(in the case of staph),that we run into trouble.a common form of staph infection occurs outside a hospital setting frequently-a man nicks himself shaving.most of the time,no problem.but occasionally, some sneaky little staphies get into the wound.the next day,the poor guy has a big, nasty hard to cure sore on his face.incedentally, its the staph and yeasts always present on our skin, that will begin the process of decay once we die-they literally eat us!!!!!!!!!!

Every inch of (anybody's) skin is covered in staph. Someone elses may be harmful to you & vise vera. Always, always wash your hands before & after eating & before & after dressing any kind of wound. Your's or anybody elses. If you have them, put on rubber gloves (after handwashing)before wound care. of course it goes without saying to wash the wound also. Staph cannot be totaly eradicated but you can keep it down if you always follow cleanliness procedures.

Yes usually due to infection of an open wound particularly if the wound exposes a joint (finger, elbow, knee) where the infection can really take hold and lead to toxic shock syndrome.
