Sounds like you have sleep apnea. I know quite a few people that have this.
It just means that your air is restricted while you sleep and therefore you don't fall as deeply asleep as the average person does, and this requires you to get more sleep.
IF you go to your regular doctor about this he/she will refer to to a nearby sleep center. If you do have sleep apnea, they will give you a special sleep mask to wear. It kinda looks like you are going scuba diving when you go to bed, but it helps you breathe without snoring and fall into a deeper sleep. My friends that have to wear it say it is totally worth it, because they have never slept better, and now can get by on sleeping just a few hours, and never fall asleep when they don't want to be sleeping.
Good luck

Maybe you should get that checked out. It sounds like you could have narcolepsy. See a sleep specialist and figure out what is wrong. They say narcoleptics sleep a lot during the day and sometimes fall asleep when they don't intend to. They are also tired when they shouldn't be. It has to do with disrupted REM.
