I'm very nervous about being put under due to possible complications (1 in 200,000 chance) but I can't take the idea of local anesthesia. I'm going to be see an oral surgeon who was reffered to me by my dentist, he will administer my anesthesia. There will also be a nurse present. Is it normal for a surgeon to administer anesthesia rather than an anesthesiologist for minor surgery?

my dentist administered the anesthesia when i had all 4 (2 impacted) removed. i got local and gas, i felt nothing. they don't do stuff they aren't trained to do. if at any point you feel pain (very unlikely) then let them know and they'll up the drugs.

An individual qualified to administer anesthesia, an anesthesiologist should and most likely will be present when you are put under. I had all of my wisdom pulled at one time and got general anesthesia in the oral surgeons office. There were two nurses, the dentists and an anesthesiologist present. If you are afraid there will not be a qualified individual present, talk to the surgeon beforehand.

Yes, it is normal. I had mine taken out about 5 months ago and worried about the same things but when i looked around the city, only two (of well over 30) that i found had both for such a minor surgery, both of which were far more expensive.
