hair grows from the roots.

you get split ends often when your hair gets too dried out, but also then can happen when you snag your hair on elastics and whatnot. When you cut off split ends you should do it about an inch above the visible split end to remove all the unhealthy hair so the end of your hair is healthy and doesn't quickly become split again.

Hair grows at the roots, if you keep your split ends cut nicely about every 6-8 weeks it should look very nice.

You know that they grow from the roots because when people dye their hair, their natural color comes out again at the roots and not the ends.

Hair grows at the roots. They are caused by damage done to your hair usually via heat, styling or cold dry air.

split ends are usually caused by heat and damage that you inflict on your hair when styling it.

if you get a haircut and cut off all your split ends they will not grow back, but they will form again if you continue doing the same things to your hair.
