We had our sons first disco the other week he fell ill there and said that he had had too much to drink. It was more he had a temp of 103 & I kept putting him in the bath. He had nothing to eat and kept being sick. On the 4th day he seemed to pull through. Then it was my daughters turn. She too had exactly the same thing. Then it was my turn and my throat was so sore and I felt so bad aching, fever, but mine got worse my gland on the right side is swollen and went to the left. Eventually I could not take it . I was just given antibiotics then sent home without any explanation. I did my own research and found out that it was indeed Strep. NOW my son is back with a sore throat and my husband is ill. I took them all to get antibiotics as I KNOW the HARM it and do. But the doc only gave my husband some and would not give it to my children . DO you think that I should get a second opinion?

strep can only be diagnosed by doing a culture by doing a swab of the throat. I would set up an appointment for all the kids and have them checked on.

Did the doctor do any testing? Strep has classic high fever and white patches. If he still has those symptoms then he probably needs antibiotics. I would get a second opinion especially if he is still symptomatic.

Please trust a doc. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

The only way for the doctor to know what he is treating is to take a culture. If he is to lazy to do that you probably need a new doctor.
