do u mean large scale? The use of wetlands is a good way. Either creating new wetlands or restoring existing wetlands. Water gets trapped in wetlands and the metals and pollutants settle and when the water eventually leaves, its cleaner

making the water run through sand, ground charcoal, a carbon filter. though that doesnt work vs all forms of pollution.

to be almost sure its not polluted anymore you can distill it. also not 100% fullproof
