A military draft with today's crop of illiterates and gangstas will not work. It would turn the military into a wasteland and would cost taxpayer's too much for nothing in return, and would only make the United States militarily weak and vulnerable.
The draft eligible candidates of today are an entirely different breed from those we remember the last time we had drafts.
Imagine a draft...full of youth that really want to do nothing more than get drunk, do drugs, listen to gangsta rap and get their girlfriends pregnant and resent the fact that they were "required" (they would say "forced") to serve in the military.

That's exactly what this country needs to change the attitudes of it's peoples.
We as Americans only think of ourselves and are the most self serving people in all the world.
We could care less about anyone else but ourselves, our own immediate future and our belongings. There was a time in this country when Americans lived to make this country a better place for future generations not just a better lifestyle for themselves.
Draft them all and let God sort them out.

Well, the draft didn't stop the war in Viet Nam. What makes you think it would work this time? Try studying some history. Even recent history. A draft is a lousy way to fight a war. But then there isn't anything except lousy in a war, is there?

I am all for the draft BUT after reading some of the answers here--they have a very good point. We have a lot of illiterates here and what would the military do with them???? Are they educateable to the point of not being dangerous to others.

I think a universal draft would be a good thing. Then there would be political pressure not to go war so easily. Besides those like VP Cheney would not be able to duck the draft. What a draft dodger he is.

i don't think a draft is a good idea, i think every man over the age of 18, should spend two years in the military, then this country would learn the value of protecting there freedoms

As a current commander, I would not like it. It is difficult as it is, but add draftees and it would be awful.
Do we need help? Last time I checked the 800,000 plus in army and Guard is more than enough. Switzerland should be our model????????

Part of the PRIDE of the USA is it's all volunteer military. My husband has pride that he is one of the best. It would weaken our military, not raise it, to make it an all draft.
