Everytime I go to church, whch happens to be when my mom forces me because we are staying with my ultra-religious grandparents, I have to wear a skirt and a nice shirt. They are also in a bible-thumping church , tho, so if the church is more liberal you could prob. wear dress pants.

This is only my opinion, and with it and 5 bucks you can get a coffee, But......
I'm Christian, and I say that if you have a comfortable pair of jeans and want to wear them to a church service, that should be fine. Any church that would actually tell you to go home and put better pants on is not a church at all. They are a social organization.
That said, I think clothing worn there should be somewhat proper in respect of those also there - meaning a girl shouldn't prance into church with her boobs hanging out of spandex. Use common sense and don't let anyone judge you. God isn't, so nobody else has the right, either.

Well that would depend on the church. If you are going with a friend ask them what most of the people at the church wear. I once went to an extermely conservative Baptist church wearing a nice black shirt and black slacks and the Minister actually pointed at me and asked me if I wanted to be saved. That was not really what I was aiming for but it was fun never the less. However I have also gone to another less conservative church in jeans and I blended right in. Blessed be.

A lot of churches don't mind the way you dress these days, they just want people to be comfortable. Just don't dress up like you're going to the bar to pick someone up. Jeans are okay as long as they are conservative and don't show your butt when you are sitting down or bending over. Women should not wear low cut tops because it distracts men from God and puts their minds on lust. Also men should not wear ultra tight jeans for that same reason. The purpose of dress is to honor God, and not to impress your peers. Comfortable and sensible.

Yes... You will find style as varied as you do at other events. At SOME places jeans would be the norm and at others they would be unacceptable.
... My best answer is something modest and with which YOU would be comfortable. Don't wear something which distracts you or those around you.
I have been to worship at a local church in Hawaii where "normal" clothing was shorts and T-shirts or "aloha" shirts. I have also been to places where men were expected to wear a jacket and tie and women were discouraged from wearing slacks. "Business casual" is probably the best guess for a semi-universal starting point.

Many churches would frown upon not dressing up for church but sadly they missed what's important.
I belong to a large contemporary church of about 2,000 and in the 3 years that our new pastor has been their I have never seen him wear a tie (but I have seen him wear a Hawiian shirt). I have even gone after work on Wednesdays in my work clothes. We are still strong in the Word and in Spirit but do not let style keep someone out (btw we're an Assembly of God church).
This being said you wouldn't want to be offensive or provocative. If you're new to church and attending for the first time you may want to dress up, but I certainly wouldn't allow that to deter you.

Depends on the church.
Some "High Churches" need their people to come dressed in their best bib-and-tucker.
Most churches, though, allow jeans and "street clothes" as long as they are modest. Some will want women to wear dresses, but not most.
Look around at what everyone else is wearing, and fit in the best you can; unless, that is, you want to really put them to the test by going against the grain!

It depends on the particular church you're going to attend.
If you've never been there you should wear a skirt or a dress & guys should wear dress pants and a dress shirt.
No jeans...no tennis shoes.

Like somebody said, God doesn't care how you're dressed - He looks at your heart, not your clothing.
However, the other people in church could be distracted from paying attention to the prayers or the message if you wear extremely immodest garb. Wearing an outfit that is skin tight or shows skin or anything that pulls somebody else's attention away from your face and draws their attention to some other part of your anatomy is as inconsiderate of other people who might have a problem with "lust of the eyes" (which is at least 50% of the population, men being extremely visual) as it is to be serving booze around alcoholics.
Be kind: dress simply and modestly.

Anything unprovacative and isn't distracting. Also, it should be "holy", which simply means set apart specifically for the purpose of wearing to church. So jeans are fine, so long as they don't bother anyone else, and so long as you specifically have set them apart for wearing while worshipping.
