I used to be really skinny as well... I empathise with you. It didn't matter how much I ate nothing seemed to happen. Then I started my own diet. In the space of just over a year I have gone from 70kg to a very healthy looking 92kg. I am living proof it is possible. Here are my tips:

Eat plenty of calories (I eat 4500 per day with my metabolism)

Eat Whey products and instead of red meat eat Eggs, Fish, Lean Meat and plenty of Milk. Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines are good as are nuts and seeds.

Don't go for low fat options... you need fat to gain weight.

Avoid cardio exercise cause this burns alot of calories.

Don't be afraid to have snacks between meals.

Also drink as much water as you can and eat plenty of fruit.

Don't miss meals... seriously I can loose 4kgs in one day if I don't eat!

It takes a while for your body to get used to eating more but it will happen.

Keep at it and best of luck.

p.s. fish is really good for the skin... I am in my 30's but I still get asked for ID to buy alcohol!!

Don't listen to other people, likely they are just joking about anorexia, like a friendly joke. I'd take it as a compliment, actually. Anyway, you don't want to put on fat. Fat is bad. You shoud put on toned muscle, or at least good fat. Eat healthy, but slightly larger portions, paying attention to increasing protein and calcium intake. Exercise regularly, but you don't need to go and get a Bowflex, just go for a jog, or weights are cheap. Obviously, being a girl (and I'm not stereotyping, just guessing) I don't think you want huge muscles, but just to look fit and be a little heavier.

What is probably most important is to not listen to anyone here that says "try eating" or "eat candy". Taking in fat is bad, people will mock you for being flabby or overweight.

Try eating five meals a day and snack a bit. Most healthy foods you aren't going to loose weight with. you will want to eat larger portions than you do now. So you should try a combination of good food and junk food. Only you can see how that helps. Also you could try to sit about the house and not do much.
Good luck and boy do I wish I had your problem. I'm the opposite. Bye!!

b.itch. just kidding, try working out coz if you exercise you will fill out and look bigger (i don't mean like a steroid pumping chick). also continue to eat healthily as are doing. eating a load of fatty unhealthly stuff to put weight on is really bad for you. anyhow, remember that the people that say you are toooo skinny are just jealous (like me!) and should be ignored. you're obviously the right weight for YOUR body so start liking and enjoying it. you're beautiful the way you are and a healthy diet and lifestyle is more important than gaining pounds for aesthetics. also, you're only 18, and you're body will still change loads before it settles down in your mid 20's

You could try to eat more carbohydrates such as pasta, rice and brown bread. These burn off a lot slower than other food but are healthy, i wouldn't advise eating junk food or too much fatty food as it will make your skin bad and could possibly do damage to your blood vessels and vital organs which won't be detected for years to come.

hmm, instead of just eating a lot maybe you should work out a special gain-weight diet. try special foods that produce more fat in it. oh, try eating noodles late at night!!! then go to sleep. the calories from the noodles is turned into fat instead of energy, since you lay down to rest. i have done that and i gained a little weight like that. but dont over-do it! excersise and eat healthy too! ^.^

Let me borrow your body for a week, I gaurentee I'll put on whatever weight you want!!!!!

From how you described yourself you don't sound anorexic though, you sound normal and most people are probably more envious than worrying about you. 55kg translates into 121lbs or 8st 9lbs and 170cm is about 5ft 6in, thats about what you should be.
