I have had several different breeds & mixed breeds. The mini schnauzer I have now is the best behaved during a walk of all of them, no leash is required, he never gets farther than 3 feet from me. I think it is more the personality of the dog than the breed though.

Honestly, I think that smarter dogs are harder to train & act out more.

Everyone will say that their certain breed is the best, and we really need more information about your lifestyle before anyone can begin to give you suggestions. Yes, breeds will have an overall, general temperment, but it all comes down to the individual dog.

A dog's true temperment isn't know until after it is grown up. If you want to be sure of a dog's temperment, adopt an adult dog.

I suggest going to your local humane society and spending some time with the dogs there. You'll find one you like.

You can also try www.petfinder.com It's a huge database of pets available for adoption. You can search by breed, age, gender, and many other things. If you're wanting a purebred, petfinder.com is still great for that, as you can search by breed.

Remember, not all shelter dogs are mutts, and not all shelter dogs are old. You'll find one you like. :)

Since you didn't say if you wanted a inside or outside pet, a large or a small, or if you have kids or not this is kinda hard to answer. For children you cannot have anything greater then a German shephard, then are super protective and super gentle. However if you want something small and cute and cuddly then you MUST have a Pom, so sweet, so cute and so devoted. Just are not great around small kids. But for the best temperament you should have a Great Dane, a Female if possible. They are truly devoted, protective loving and in general a great dog.

We have had all three breed, and each has been a complete joy, We travel quite a bit so we how have the Pom.

Hope this helps

shelter canines are an excellent greater advantageous selection than puppy keep domestic canines (puppy keep domestic canines very often come from puppy turbines). With a shelter canines, you're frequently gazing a canines that has been temperament and well-being examined until eventually now being placed for adoption and maximum have already been spayed and neutered and function all their photos. and you're saving a existence. in addition they cost much less. additionally, they'll take it lower back if it does not artwork out. puppy shops many times do no longer try this. All shelters are distinctive yet maximum canines are saved in kennels different than while they're out to play in workout runs. lots of the canines do get hyper in the kennel ecosystem and taking one out for a walk or out to the play backyard gives you you a greater advantageous theory of character. Ask the kennel team correct to the canines - does it like different canines, different animals, babies? Ask correct to the point of coaching it has, any issues the canines has and what they advise. study as much as you may. Adoption procedures fluctuate extraordinarily by skill of shelter so confirm and ask earlier than time. One suggestion - in case you hire - deliver a letter out of your landlord indicating that that's ok so which you would be able to undertake. That one comes up very almost each and every time. sturdy success.

I'm extremly partial to labrador retrevers. They are great around children, easy to train and walk, are protective of the family and have the best temperment of any dog. They are rated the #1 family dog in the USA by the AKC. You even get some choices in color, black, yellow, chocolate, red fox and silver (silver is not an AKC approved color.

No one can really give you a great and informed answer to this question. You haven't told us anything about your work schedule, your financial situation, your lifestyle, your activity level, your home situation, the ages of your children, the animal experience with the family, etc. Any answers you get will just be uneducated guesses from children telling you their favourite dog - dogs that may be a terrible match for you.

The best thing you can do is visit a shelter or rescue group and see if a dog fits your needs. http://www.petfinder.com The next best thing is to watch a dog show - they are constantly on Animal Planet and USA and write down maybe 10 breeds that appeals to you. From there, visit http://www.akc.org and go to the "breed" area. On the left will be a link to the breed flyer, breed club, and breed rescue group. Click on each one and learn as much about the breed as possible.

From there if you decide you want a purebred puppy, read sites like

and
http://www.geocities.com/bluegracepwd/wh...

to help you find a reputable breeder.

Good luck to you

We just recently got a puppy and after much research, we decided on a shih tzu. They are super adorable, smart and great with kids. They only grow up to 14lbs, so they're easy to handle. We've had our little Charlotte for 2 months and she knows her commands (come, sit, stand etc) and is about 95% house broken (everyone has accidents). She is absolutely wonderful and a great first pet. If you're interested in a bigger dog, I've never owned one personally, but I hear Golden Retrievers are good family pets...harder to handle during training 'cause they're so big. Good luck.

There is no answer in regards to breeds as each dog as its' own unique personality.

If you want a dog to walk well on a lead then you train it to do so and give it good leadership.
