Okay, actually I am just curious how many people are annoyed (or worse!) at the blatant requests for homework to be done for them. Like, "Please translate this entire oral report." I am a teacher, and it drives me crazy to think that some students (the ones that have internet access, and believe me, not all of my students do!) could just have their homework done for them, and think they deserve the same grade as their classmates who do all their own work. Worse yet, many people answer them!

Don't get me wrong. I have no issue with people asking for help (for example, "I don't understand the difference between these two verb tenses. Can someone explain them to me?"), but what are these kids actually learning? These are people that in the not-too-distant future will be running our government, approving our bank loans, staffing our nursing homes...

I think you have too high of expectations for the kids who feel they need to resort to the Internet for help five minutes before something is due.
Something more realistic would be, "These are the people that in the not-too-distant future will be running used car lots, selling products over the telephone, sweeping our nursing homes' halls..."

I'm only 18, so I'm not really at your level, but I agree. I didn't have any internet access until I moved to college. I would hear people say that they would use the internet for an essay on a book, or something like that.
People are lazy, (not all of them) and I don't think it's fair that they would get the same grade as the kid that worked his butt off to do really well. I don't really know. Maybe you could have your students cite their work, or something. I can't think of anything else. I wish I could help more. But yeah, they will be running our country, and who knows, maybe they'll start doing their work. Or, remember the saying, "cheaters never prosper?" They'll continue to try to have someone else to the work for them, but it won't last long, when it comes down to it. The kid that worked his/her butt of for it will move out in front and be the prosperer. (is that spelt right?)

no offense but as a teacher you should know most critics of the failing american eduction system site homework as worthless and trivial. they have tossed it in most asian countries except north korea. the outcome? students with time to do more productive things than stupid rote assignments. of course this means teachers have time and smaller classes where they can actually teach instead of lecture. how far down the education drain has the united states slipped by now anyway? has the bush regime suppressed the statistics on eductation as well as everything else? not blaming you -- just why are you trying to work with a system that is broken?

I'm a student and always get A+'s. I think it's really unfair because all those people out there should do all their own work; that's how it's going to be in the real world when they grow up. A lot of people ask me for my answers when they had asked me before to explain the problem to them I know how you feel.

I felt like I didn't "learn" a lot in school. I did a lot of memorizing and have forgotten most of it (Yes - I did go to college as well and majored in Elementary Education!) I think our system is messed up. I have also found that many of the teachers are just there for a pay check.

I stopped giving homework in my 3rd year as a Spanish teacher. Why? Because the kids weren't doing it anyway, or they were literally scribbling down any old answers while walking down the hall to class. Half of them had jobs after school or played sports, or took serious music lessons.

Hey, it worked for me, but to each his own :-)

I agree with you. The worse part is that they won't learn a thing that way.
I only help the ones who are trying to do it by themselves, NEVER do a complete homework. I don't understand the ones who do it, either. I mean it takes your time, it doesn't really help the kid and it doesn't make any sense.

School children have been cheating for eternity.
Sooner or later, the ones who cheat will learn or be caught. The ones who continue will grow up to be criminals or politicians.

I think the real bright and capable kids will never come here to ask somebody else to do their homework. Aaand, those are the ones who will be running our government, etc. etc.
