Hebrews 11:1-3

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

This is a letter to the Hebrews. The author is telling us that faith is the knowing that God is true and that some things are beyond our understanding. We must trust that we are right and God will prove us faithful in the end.

God Bless

WOW! That's a really tough question.

The dictionary defines faith as belief in the value, or trustworthiness of someone or something.

We have faith that when we turn the spigot water will come out or when we flip the light switch, the lamp will come on. Why do we have that faith? Because the 1,000 times we've done it before that is what has happened.

Faith in God works the same way. When we begin to realize we can rely on God for comfort, for support our faith grows. We don't automatically get granted this big dollop of faith upon becoming a Christian. It grows. And the only way for it to grow is to trust Him to handle things. How do we do that? By realizing things don't happen according to our schedule, but His. By fully counting on Him to see us through whatever it is we're facing.

That doesn't mean God is like this big lucky charm or a magic genie in a bottle. He doesn't work that way. He sometimes allows us to go through some pretty rough stuff, but we're never alone. He is going through it with us. By putting specific people in our paths, maybe. Or leading us to a certain event. It's hard to tell sometimes that He is there and that's where faith starts. I know it's hard to believe in something (Someone?) you can't see but I sort've look at it like this: I can't see oxygen, but I know when I breathe in, it's gonna be there 'cuz the million and one other breaths I have taken have all had oxygen in them! Otherwise, I wouldn't be sitting here writing on a computer, would I?

And it doesn't happen over night, either. Also, I am not a big proponent of "blind" faith. There is some darned good evidence that God exists and it doesn't all come from the Bible. Plus, if anyone tells you you're not a 'good' Christian for asking questions like this, ignore them. God isn't afraid of being questioned or searched out. He is most definitely here!

God bless! Hope this was of some help to you.

I'm not catholic or christjin, I am however Christian. The bible in Hebrews describes faith as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." I like to try to illustrate it as, have you ever had to be somewhere at noon and you knew it would take you 30 minutes to get there so you walk out the door at 11:30 a.m. because you are confident that you won't have to look for your keys and when you get in your car you know without a doubt it will start and you will get where you have to go in time. You have faith in your car that it won't break down, faith in yourself that your keys are in a certain place, faith in the traffic light system that you would get there in time and faith in other drivers that they won't hit you. That's the kind of faith I have in the God I serve.

In its simplest form, faith is believing in something that youy know in your heart is real, but you cannot see.

Faith is believing someone or something exists in spite of other evidence that may say otherwise.

A tightrope walker advertised that he would push a wheelbarrow across Niagara Falls on a tight rope. The day came, and as he began to climb the tower to the platform level with the rope, he asked a bystander if he thought the feat could be accomplished.

"Of course', the bystander said. "You've done this kind of thing before."
"But do you REALLY BELIEVE I can cross all the way across that thundering falls, pushing a wheelbarrow?"
"Yes, I really do believe you can do it" was the response.
"But do you have absolute faith that I can made the trip safely?"

"Yes, I really do have faith that you can cross that falls on a tightrope while pushing a wheelbarrow" was the answer.

"Then climb into the wheelbarrow"

That is faith.

Faith is believing in something or someone we can not perceive with our senses. For example, you board an airplane and you have faith that it will take you to your destination, you go thru a green light and you have faith that the drivers in the crossing road will stop. Similarly the Lord doesn't reveal Himself to us unless we have faith that He will. He doesn't have any need for us to love Him, but out of mercifulness and compassion for us He allows us to develop faith and eventually get to know Him.

Baptist.
Faith is simply what you believe. That can apply to religion, politics, or anything else. People who believe that Jesus is God in human form would be a Christian. People who believe in evolution would be an evolutionist. They would be an evolutionist because they have faith in that theory. But, they would still be people of faith-only a different faith than you or me. Again, "faith" is just what you believe.

Faith is when you have some evidence but you have to believe without seeing. Things you see everyday, you dont have to believe in because you know it is there and solid and you can touch it. Faith is not knowing for sure. Its in your heart

Basically, from Hebrews I gather this: faith is complete and absolute trust that the words of God are true and right.

I think "TODAY" has said it well, that is a biblical definition. Faith is also the action I take following what I believe.
