Marriage does not require a priest. Two people can be legally married in this country without a priest or other religious figure being involved in any way. and not all religions are against homosexuality. in fact, some religious denominations (the reform Jewish church for example) perform and recognize gay marriages. You can't concieve of a world outside your own personal religious views, can you?

Marriage not only doesn't require a priest (it can be managed with a justice of the peace or the captain of a ship), but it DOES require a license from the state.

What is more, clergy in several Protestant, Jewish, and other religions wish to perform state-sanctioned same-gender marriages, but they are prevented from doing so by irrational state and Federal laws.

And perhaps you've heard that dissolution of a marriage requires a judge, not a religious figure.

Marriage is first and foremost a civil commitment, and religion is secondary.

Marriage doesn't always require a priest. I was married by a pastor. And I know many people who were married by a Justice of the Peace. So, no, all marriages are NOT religious processions. It just depends on what kind of marriage service you want, based on your beliefs and faith.

Are you really this stupid?
Marriages does NOT require a priest. What it DOES require though is the LEGAL paperwork.
Try this simple test;
Go to a church and try to get married without the legal paperwork. Can't be done.
Next, go to city hall and get married by a judge without once mentioning any brand of magic sky-pixie. No problem at all.
So you see, marriage is a legal institution, not a religious one. And to deny same-sex couples that institution is not only illegal, but unconstitutional.

If the marriage is going to occur in a church then of course it requires a priest or religious leader to conduct it. There are some churches out there that are not homophobic, but gays and lesbians aren't allowed to marry in even the churches that aren't if they want, let alone a courthouse. There are religious GLBTs out there who might believe in their religion and want it blessed in a church of their choice. It's not saying they want to move in on the homophobes and force THEM to marry them... it's for CIVIL rights as human beings.

In the Roman Catholic Church, the Marriage ceremony must be conducted by a priest or a deacon. the reason is that for Catholics, marriage is a Sacrament. This is the reason why Catholics are not allowed to marry in a park or in a lovely gardner or backyard or......Sacrments are gifts to the entire church and so must be conducted in a church.

Marriage is a bond and agreement between husband, wife, and God. To honor, cherish, love..etc..till death to you part... self expanitory. God sets out his expectations of marrige in the Bible. He says when divorce is "allowable", he says to NEVER stray from your husband/wife's bed (obviously no cheating on the other), and also to fullfill eachother's needs, even sexual needs =). God made sex feel good in every sensual way, but its meant to be between husband and wife not not oustide it. Its meant to be out of true love. Sorry I've strayed off the question, but everyone I know cheats on their wife and it drives me crazy...

Yes, homosexuality took place in the Bible and God says that sex and marriage is between man and woman, husband and wife. If homosexuals want to be married then its to feel equal and accepted maybe. Either way homosexuality is a choice, a sin, that many people make. We all have free will to choose what we do in life. Yes a lot of people choose to be gay because of horrible things done to them by F'd up perverts, and it subcontiously confuses them on what is sexually right or pleasing...am I attracted to woman or men...its a choice, people that are gay can be straight. Many of people have realized the choice they made was wrong according to God and society and became straight. This is a whole other subject, sorry. lol

marriage as we know it today is just legal...it doesn't mean what its supposed to to many people. 50% of all marriages end in devorce, THATS CRAZY!!! Marriage to society and government is nothing but legal, and deals with taxes, money, and everyone in this crazy society being sue and divorce happy which takes it in the court room. Marriage today is nothing like it was inteaded to be. To the majority of society anyways.

Marriage does not require a priest.

Homosexuals are free to marry in non judgmental religions.

Catholic Church loses out on those tithes, huh?
