Camera got very hot on top after about 15 min. Then quit working but still has sound. Checked all cables. New never mounted just tested before doing so.

It sounds like your power supply is not regulated and you might have fried your camera or overheated it. You need to get a regulated power supply. What that means is the power supply won't force the camera to take more than it needs. There are many power supplies that are not regulated. It sounds like something overheated or overloaded. If it is new, send it back under warranty.
