My friend and I are doing a project on Temperate Forests. We need to write a research paper and in it, we have to include the altitude. We cannot find the information anywhere. Does anyone know the altitude? Please find out and tell me!!~

Temperate forests can grow all the way down to sea level, and up the mountains to a height where the temperature averages above 0 degrees Celsius for the annual average. That means that in North Carolina, say, the forests can grow to 6000 feet or more, but in New Hampshire the temperate tree line is more like 4000 feet.

Temperate forests need water, but the amount of water varies a lot depending on the temperature. In a cold area they may need only about 50 - 100 cm per year, but in a hot area they may need 200 cm a year. They generally can't survive in areas where the average temp for the whole year is above 20 celsius.

i think altitude has less to do with it than latitude and geographic location.
temperate was introduced in classical times for one of the 3 temperature zones, the others being 'torrid' and 'frigid'. in climatic terms temperate is usually thought of as 'moderate', without any extremes, whereas in actual fact climates within the temperate zone may vary considerably and be far from moderate.
