I'm just curious, what do you all think? What have you believed in the past that you know now to be misconceptions? Have you ever been to a Hindu temple, or attended a Hindu celebration of sorts (Diwali, Holi, etc.)?

arjuna, has long ago atained enlightment. but even modern hindus still see him as a seaker driving krishnas chariot.

2.shakti is a drug.
shakti is a emotional energy, that GETS YOU HIGH.but dosnt lead to enlightment.

pat robertson. the preacher has a lot of shakti, and is as stupid as a stump.

3.shakti-pat gurus are ARE COSMIC DRUG PUSHERS.cosmic alcaolics
when you chant .for 5-10 hours with 5,000 to 10,000 people ,you get stoned off your bottom.but its JUST GETTING HIGH.and will not lead you to enlightment..not saying it isnt fun

4. killing the ego.

enlightend gurus clame to have killed ther egos, but i believe they are deluding them selves. i just see them as DRUG ADICTS, drunk on the shakti drug.
when one is [stoned], you think every thing is groovy, and that every one is as stoned as you are, and that all the crap that spilles from your mouth ...has cosmic sigificance.

but when you come down you realize that all the suposed [insights] were just bablings of a druged out mind.

i have never met a seeker that has ever gotten enlightment, from a guru.

What happened to you to lose your faith or atleast doubt it? Remember Hinduism is one of the freest and expressive religions in the world.
Listen there are so many ways to practice it, that no one has the right to say what is right and what is wrong,
e.g. Cow eating,--- There is no text in hinduism that states that it is forbidden to eat cow unlike islam and judism. In the mahabharata and other texts, they ate cow and even performed cow sacrifice.(Read the original translated text and not the altered versions)
You don't have to go to a temple, Hinduism allows for worship at home in the heart. You don't need to bow in front of an idol, as long as you believe in it , that's hinduism already.
When the vedas were written there were no gods at all there was just a thinking that you have to do your duty "karma" and uphold morality "dharma". That was the way to nirvana. The gods only got added later for the people to lead a moral and "good" life.

Whatever you believe in is the proper way for "you" to practice
hinduism and let noone tell you that you are wrong

I've never visited a Hindu temple or attended any of their celebrations, but I've read quite a bit about their teachings. Lots of good stuff there ... for me, I think they "almost get it right" but there are a few things about the teachings that I don't go along with. I respect Hinduism more than most Western teachings.

Actually, this is one of the religions I wish I knew a lot more about. For some reason (gee, could it be that I went to a Catholic College) my comparative religions class seemed to gloss over Hinduism completely. And I don't think I know any Hindis. In fact, I'm not even sure that's the right word, I'm ashamed to admit! I say I don't *think* I know any because I may very well, but the discussion of beliefs hasn't come up.

I am not attracted to it.
Its very complicated with so many gods. Its superstition more then a religion.

I have been to hindu temples.. but i didnt feel like bowing head in front of monkey, elephent and such colorful gods. But overall I enjoyed it.

Shiva is my friend.
Back in my wild and crazy youth he used to wear me like a shirt and dance.
Now he's happy to sit on a shelf in my bedroom, surrounded by pretty rocks.

I think Hinduism is an amazing religion, full of beauty, deeply-layered meaning and teachings, and rich in so many ways.

however those Hindus i were around were strict Hindus and not the modern one.the modern Hindus smell a lot better and they bath and shave excess hair.

there are so many deities, it appears to have a very complex hierarchy, also depending on regional deities, the celebrations seem very colorful, and i would love to visit. thomas
