I know a couple who leaves their children (13, 11, 9, 8, 7, 2, and one on the way) home alone while they go to the casino 5 nights a week. The mom brags that she's never read a book to any of her children, and is happy that the older ones like to read to the baby so she doesn't have to do it. She chastizes her kids for wanting to go to activities at the local library. She lets her husband smoke pot in the shed behind their rented house (that her mom is paying the rent on) because at least he's not smoking meth anymore. She brags that she's never smoked more in her life than those times she was pregnant. She slapped her eldest child for calling one of the other kids a bad name. I consider this abuse and neglect, yet when CPS visits the house they are allowed to keep the kids, go figure!

weather or not CPS has contacted you, they without a doubt have contacted the mother. no matter how big or small a case may seem, whenever CPS gets a call, they have to go check it out. now, to many people, not having a job to support your kids may seem like neglect. i mean, come on, you have to work in order to provide for your children. as long as the kids are not going hungry, and have clothes on thier backs, and everything they need, then CPS wont do anything about a non-working mom. now, if she does get her kids taken from her by CPS, they will more than likley put her in a program where they help her find a job, and make sure she stays working in order to get her kids back. and this is something they can monitor for years. i really hope everything turns out ok, its good that you are looking out for thier well-being. if you are afraid that nothing is being done, and you suspect child abuse, make sure you keep in contact with CPS to keep them updated. nothing is more horrible than seeing children get abused and neglected. take care of thoes children, it sounds like they need you.

I would say child abuse means any form of abuse such as verbal, mental, sexual, emotional, or physical. Whereas, neglect if not making sure your child has the things they need. Such as a roof over their head, clothes, food, or even a lack of stimulation. Like love, communication, or snuggling. Kind of like neglect is the lack of comforts that are needed to survive and abuse is what it sounds like. The harm of a child.

When you call CPS to report something, they ask if the children are clean (meaning that they don't have several days worth of dirt ground into the skin), if they have socks and underpants, if they have more than one change of clothes, if they're being fed regularly, if they have bruises, and if you've seen them being injured or been told by the children that they're being injured.

I think you might have to post more details about the specific situation you're concerned about.

Alot of people think that abuse is any kind of physical pain inflicted on the child. That is not true, it is ok to spank a child as long as no marks are left and the pain (if any) only lasts for a second of two...

Child abuse consists of any act, or failure to act, that endangers a child's physical or emotional health and development. Someone is abusive if he or she fails to nurture the child, physically injures the child, or relates sexually to the child.
