Are people allowed to take photos on an airplane? Does anyone know for sure if we are allowed to or not? I am going on a trip this friday and I was just wondering if we are allowed to take pictures of like the clouds, and when we are close to landing, of the ground. I know that we use to be able to but, with the new security restrictions and everything.

Its better to check with your local airline or call up to ask the airport customer service as well. Usually they do allow photo taking on the plane, I did it couple years back when I was on the plane. But now I am not sure about the new rules, cheers

You can definitely take some good pictures in-flight, for example, in Continental you are allowed to take pictures of the clouds or anything that does not requires a flash, that's a statement included in Continental's policy(you can go on-line and read your airline's policy), and I learned it the hard way, cause I use to take lots of pictures, cause they always go out really nice, but one time I took a picture of my brother and a flight attendant told me that I was not allowed to do it, not for security reasons, she told me that the main reason is that a flash flight is very power-full and that could badder other customers. There aren't too much restrictions in-flight, anyway a couple minutes before take-off they present a video with all the restrictions during the flight. Usually what they say is that you can't smoke, some electronic devices are not permitted and you should keep your seat-belt fastened while you are sited. Good luck, enjoy your trip!

Most places allow photos -- flying in and out of some countries, you should not take photos of the airport (some Mideast and Asian countries). The US does not allow photos inside customs and at the immigration counters; other countries may have similar regulations. On a domestic US flight, it's not a problem to take pictures landing but I'd either ask, or be very careful doing it.

It's not a problem to take photos on board (i.e. of people sleeping, clouds, etc.)

Of course you can! I love taking pictures of the clouds from the plane! Some things not to do:
(on a small commuter plane)-don't get anything to drink, I was on a small interisland flight from Maui to Big Island once and a lady got a cup of coffee that ended up all over her lap once we hit turbulance; i saw the coffee suspended in the air for like 5 seconds
-dont have sex in the lavatory
-dont harass the flight attendant (you have to deal with her for a while...i found out the hard way)
-dont try to smoke...
-dont put your bag into the upper storage with the handle facing out...I did that once and all of my belongings were in the middle of the isle by the time the plane landed and they re-opened the storage
-DO wear slippers (sandals/flip flops) they're easier to take off
-DO bring a sweater, blanket, and your own pillow
-DO bring your own headset (the single prong works, you just get only one ear or I just buy one pair and bring them the next time)
-DO go to the bathroom before you get on the plane
-DO travel with at least 20 cash (in case you need a drink!)

You can take photos both inside and outside the plane. But only after the seat belt sign is switched off in flight.

If you have a friendly crew that aren't doing much, you could even ask them to take photos of you onboard. Its great customer service and relieves some of the boredom of a long and quiet flight. But as other posters have said, no flash.

We took our nieces to go scuba diving in Bonaire last year. We took flash pictures on the plane, we asked the stewardess to take our pictures together, we took pictures out the window. This was on United. I have also taken pictures recently on Lufthansa, Air Jamaica, and SAS.
If you are nervous, ask the flight attendant if it's OK, but i'm sure it is.

Don't use flash. They don't seem to mind you taking pictures e.g. out the window, but if you use a flash, they will complain.

Definitely don't use it during landing and takeoff.

The rule is generally no electronic devices of any sort during landing and takeoff, and no communication devices at all during the flight (radios, cellphones, etc. -- if you use a cameraphone, you may get hassled and they will want you to show the phone saying "Wireless off" or something showing that it isn't transmitting.)

You should call and ask. But when i came back from china, my dad had his digital camera on his belt (it was in a camera case that hangs from the belt) and he took pictures on the plane. But just in case, you should ask first.
